Aesthre ran off in hurry. He needed to have time alone to think about everything that he had been told. Krimsol had so much to say and too much of it concerned things that related to Aesthre. He had to understand, he was stuck here, and that there was no one to free him, except that waver in Krimsol’s voice… maybe there was a way out. But why had he been put here in the first place, by the one who raised him even? Why did this happen? Had he not known that there was no return from this plane? And the words Krimsol spoke about his master, “One soul for sustenance.” What did that mean? There was only one place to find out.
Aesthre strode at a good pace on what seemed to be a path. However while Aesthre was thinking it was replaced by a layer of dark water, and him splashing in the water brought his attention back to the world around him. Even the trees changed to tall massive poles that were held above the water by roots making them look like massive hands. Aesthre kept up his pace in the shallow water, splashing as it slowly deepened. He kept moving not seeing any sign of the tower Krimsol had mentioned. Aesthre ended a long stride expecting the water to only be a little deeper, but was instead sucked down to his waist. It seemed to be a random deep spot, but it was irritating since it was undectable in this dark water. There had to be a better way to get around in this swamp. Aesthre looked around and found a tree’s roots that were nearby. He trudged over and climbed up, and discovered his legs were now covered in muck. He kicked the gunk from his boots and started looking around. He spied another set of tree roots within jumping distance. He leapt to it and with a brief loss of balance stayed above the water. There were more nearby roots and he figured if he could keep this up he’d never have to touch the water. He leapt to the next set and then the next, Aesthre was starting to get the hang of this. He began to speed up, landing each jump with more precision then the last.
Aesthre landed again but stopped. There were trees to his right that were swaying. There was no wind, so there had to be something there. He drew his sword and looked about. He hadn’t seen anything in this place yet and didn’t know if they’d be like those bugs or the bulls or what. Something moved behind him and the water rippled from one of the trees. There was another movement. Aesthre leapt to the next tree and faced backwards as two spear-like arms pierced the spot he had been standing at. No longer with ambush as an option the beast made it self visible. It had many spider-like legs, an upper body like a mantis, with four arms that had been the spears, and its head that was only four mandibles of a mouth. Two of its arms flexed and extended all the way to Aesthre forcing him to move again. Just as he landed it attacked again. He slashed its arms deflecting them and then launched his blade at its body. It dodged with amazing finesse for its size. It hissed and leapt to a tree closer to him, attaching to the far side for cover. This thing wasn’t stupid like the previous things he had fought, and it would be tough to beat.
