Aesthre began to open the door again. The Devourer let out another massive howl that shook the building again.
“You should use the other exit”. The scribe pointed out. Aesthre looked across the room and found another exit, and moved to it. “And read this before you go, it’ll help you get back.” A skinny hand appeared next to Asethre with a scroll in it. He opened it and examined its contents. It didn’t make any sense until he read the whole thing. He felt a little dizzy, and then the writing became clear. It explained to how walk on water and now he was capable of doing so. Aesthre dashed out the exit, which was pretty much just a tunnel with an inch of water on the floor that lead straight. It didn’t take long to reach the other end and the exit lead up via stairs. He leapt out to find the tower was a ways behind him with the Devourer not to be seen, but its howling revealed it was still nearby. Aesthre looked around trying to find some kind of landmark, but there was nothing to tell him which direction he should be going. He stood in contemplation for a moment and then remembered about the earpiece. He pressed down on the button, which started a static sound.
After a few seconds he heard “Hello?” it was Krimsol.
“This is Aesthre. I met with the Scribe and I need to know how to get back.”
“Did you leave out the main exit or the side one?”
“The side one.”
“There should be a marker on top of that exit. It points in the direction you should go.” Aesthre looked at the top of the doorway he had come from, where a hand pointing could clearly be seen.
“And Krimsol, why didn’t you tell me that there was a way to leave this plane?”
There was a pause. “We’ll talk about that when you get back to my castle.” The ear piece went silent. Krimsol wouldn’t tell him any more now so Asethre dashed off along the top of the water. There was nothing that tried to stop him on the way back, maybe because the Devourer was howling. Aesthre made it back much faster than when he had left and rushed inside. Krimsol was on the other side of the door waiting for him. Together they walked to the throne room, talking along the way.
“Now, my question from before.” Aesthre started.
“I can answer it now. It was partly because if you had managed to leave I didn’t know what would have happened to your plane. If you had infected the new world I would be responsible and I couldn’t risk it. But it may be that you need to now.”
“I can’t just let my brother die, tell me how do I leave?”
Krimsol let out a sigh. “Do you remember the controller for the portal I mentioned? That’s what you need to get.”
“Where is it?”
Krimsol paused for a second. “That’s the other part of why I didn’t tell you. It’s in the heart of the Devourer.”
I kinda happy with this one. Seemed a little off in the middle, but it worked out at the end.
