DAJ 36: Return

Aesthre turned away from the now empty hull and examined the prize he had received. It was a metallic orb with many marks and designs upon its surface. He activated his earpiece and spoke. “Krimsol, I’ve got the device.”
A bit of static began along with Krimsol’s voice. “I’m glad to hear that, Aesthre,” Aesthre thought for a moment about the fate of his son.
“Krimsol, he spoke up” he spoke up “your son had been still alive. I believe he was suffering as he held the device from the thing that took him. I had to end his life, I’m sorry.”
There was long silence between the two. The only way Aesthre knew Krimsol was still there was the static. “It had to be done.” Krimsol sadly replied. The static noise became louder and drowned out Krimsol. Aesthre could only make out two words from him next sentence, ‘come back’. He felt it would be best to just return to his castle. Aesthre turned to leave and saw the body of the devourer sink into the swamp. Bubbles escaped as its corpse was lost under the murky waters surface. Aesthre hurried off towards the castle. The static still remained so he turned off the machine in his ear. Nothing would dare cross his path after killing the most feared beast in this entire plane. He reached the entrance to find Krimsol and his ship waiting for him outside.
“Hello Aesthre. I bet you want to leave as quickly as possible, correct?”
“Yeah, I need as much time as I can get to save my brother” Aesthre replied.
“Then off we go.”
Aesthre had a strange feeling, something was wrong. Krimsol hopped into the ship and motioned for Aesthre to follow. He did cautiously and kept quiet. ‘Maybe he’s acting different because of the fate of his son’ Aesthre thought ‘but he thought his son had been killed already…’they arrived at the gate and walked in.
Aesthre examined the device, but couldn’t find how to activate the portal. Krimsol took it from him and started pushing buttons. The gateway flickered and lit up showing the dark room from when he first arrived. Aesthre put his hand onto the portals surface, giving a tingle in his fingers. He pushed through and stepped the rest of the way in. He turned back to look at Krimsol one last time.
“Maybe fate will allow us to meet again sometime.” Krimsol said. He turned and the portal dissipated leaving only the dark room. Aesthre suddenly got a chill up his spine, and proceeded out of the ruins. ‘Now how should I get Arolas’ attention?’ he thought as he looked out into the country side. A castle stood on a cliff in the distance. Aesthre made his way into the human world again.
